Dosage Lines

The Dosage Lines indicate the details for dosage administration and is used to convey two pieces of information:

  • The overall time period when something occurred (or is to occur)

  • How often it did (or should it) occur within that time period

These are especially helpful when communicating tapering doses (i.e. prednisone). At least one row must exist within the Dosage Lines table.

The following action buttons are available:

  • - allows you to enter multiple dosage lines

  • - allows you to remove a dosage line

  • - opens the Dosage Line window and allows you to modify an existing Structured Dosage Line. For more information, see Dosage Line Window Overview.

There are five columns in this table.

  • Seq - indicates the order (or sequence) in which the dosage lines should be performed. This column contains a dropdown with values of blank or "AND" to indicate whether the dosage lines should occur sequentially or in parallel. If the row is left blank, the structured dose will be sequential. If "AND" is selected, the dosage lines will be parallel.

  • Pre-Condition - indicates conditions that must be satisfied for the dosage instruction. Within the group, a PRN checkbox can be selected to flag the Pre-Condition as PRN. This field is not mandatory. To add a Pre-Condition, a dosage line must be added.

Once the prescription has been recorded on the DIS, the Pre-Condition cannot be changed with Amend. To modify the Pre-Condition on the current prescription, the prescription must be rebilled or refused. The value will be carried forward with a reauthorization and refill.

  • Ad-Hoc - free-form description of how the dispensed medication is to be administered to the patient.

When a prescription SIG is entered or selected from the SIG dropdown list, Propel Rx will automatically create a default dosage line. The instruction must be entered in the List Maintenance Instructions with the days supply factor for this to occur. If this is not indicated or defined, Ad-Hoc instructions will be sent instead. For more information, see Instructions in List Maintenance.

  • Structured - a structure describing the frequency (how often the drug is to be administered) and offset (elapsed time between administrations) represented by one line of the dosage administration instruction. It includes the overall time period that the dosage instruction applies to.

  • Extended - free-form description of extended instructions regarding the administration of the drug.
